    Where do I begin to tell a story of how great a love can be… for hair styling. Well, to start with hair is something personal. When I say personal, I mean it’s a part of who you are. It’s a lovely way to discover different aspects of yourself and express it to the world.

    So what I do not understand is why someone would want to look like someone else? There was one time when a client had walked in, and explained in great detail how she would like a hair cut, like Madhuri Dixit on one side and Jaya Prada on the other side. I’m not kidding! We, (my salon team and I) have been through the Urmila Matondkar phase, the Jennifer Aniston phase. Then we’ve had the other variety who came by the truck loads, all wanting the Shah Rukh Khan hairstyle. Hello! I mean they are stars! Their hair style looks good on them. Actors often wear their hair to suit the character they’re playing. In order to ape the look, firstly you have to have a similar hair texture, a similar bone structure and facial features! That’s a tall order or an unattainable fantasy, unless of course you visit a surgeon before me. By the way, currently we’re going through the Shahid Kapoor phase.

    The answer to this problem is to choose a reliable stylist. Source out one, someone who comes highly recommended through friends, who’ve had a good experience. They should completely trust that person and insist you go to that stylist. Next is to take an appointment with the specific stylist, then sit on a consult with him/her, talk about your lifestyle, your work and your expectations of the look you want. You have to be on the same page. He/she needs to understand what you could probably visualise on yourself.

    Sure you could also carry along a picture of an actor/model/celeb that you like, as a reference point; but just a reference. Then you’re on your way to a look that’s you! A good stylist works with the personality as well as the person’s hair texture, facial features, body type and dressing style.
